DRB Cable Design Consulting Engineer at IBM in Any United States

This position requires a strong background in communications technology, cable infrastructure design for data center topology’s, external cable plant, premise cabling, campus applications and the various other applications required for physical cabling including, voice, data, and video. Candidate must have experience in the design of cabling system as integrated with mission critical data centers and building physical applications. Must understand mission critical 7×24 communications requirements, experience preparing & reviewing engineered drawings & associated construction documents for communications cabling projects for data/network centers, command/control operations centers.

• May be required to work multiple projects consecutively with multiple IBM teams, external design firms & IBM clients.
• Must be familiar with the latest in cable manufactured technology’s and design methodology’s.
• Must be experienced in communicating with clients to determine and document their operational and cabling requirement as part of a Requirements analysis and to develop design/ specifications for the clients cable plant to meet the design / operational requirements.
• Candidate must have experience in overseeing and coordinating communications cabling installations, testing / analysis and verification of installation performance.
• Must have experience and maintained up to date knowledge for national and local standards codes including, NEC, BISCI, NESC, ANSI, IEEE, TIA and TAI.
• Must have experience in the design of Command Center technology for large screen / visual systems / communications / controls.
• Must possess a RCDD certification and be in good standing.
Security clearance for government work is a plus.
75% + national travel required with some international travel on occasion, home on most weekends.

Required
• High School Diploma/GED
• At least 3 years experience in Communications Technology and mission critical 7×24 communications requirement
• At least 3 years experience in Preparing and reviewing engineering drawings and associated construction documents for cable projects for data/network and command/control centers
• At least 3 years experience in cable infrastructure design for data center topology, external cable plant, premise cabling, campus applications, etc.
• At least 3 years experience in design of cabling systems as integrated with mission critical data centers and building physical applications
• At least 3 years experience in communicating w/clients to document a Requirements Analysis and develop design specifications for the client´s cable plant
• At least 3 years experience in overseeing and coordinating communications cabling installations, testing, analysis and verification of installation performance
• At least 3 years experience in and maintained up-to-date knowledge for national and local standards codes
• At least 2 years experience in the proficient use of design and project management applications such as AutoCad and MS Project or Primavera
• Certified in as RCDD and be in good standing
• Readiness to travel up to 75%; travelling 5 days a week, home on weekends
• English: Fluent

Preferred
• Associate’s Degree/College Diploma in Information Technology
• At least 3 years experience in Client and Team Relationships
• At least 3 years experience in Team Leadership
• Security clearance of National Agency Check (NAC) – Active
