Engine Component Design Engineer

Created 3D CAD models of the 6.8L V10 engine to select the optimal fastener to improve throttle body to intake manifold assembly. This involved stack up calculations considering thread engagement, bearing area, and design guidelines. Validated a new seal process of the oil feed hole in the Duratec 3.5L cylinder head by developing a CAE model in Hypermesh, analyzing the model in Abaqus, and post-processing the results to meet retention requirements. Managed design change of cylinder head bracket to resolve assembly issues at Chicago Assembly Plant by conducting prototype testing and development of a sign off procedure between design and manufacturing to avoid future issues.

Engine Manufacturing Advisor

Implemented actions across shifts to minimize downtime and rejects at Romeo Engine Plant. This was accomplished by collecting and analyzing operator performance, troubleshooting breakdowns with test engineers, and reviewing the assembly process with teams of hourly workers.

Engine Systems Engineer

Performed Dynamometer development testing that revealed the optimal seal design to address excessive oil consumption of the 4.0L Mustang engine causing failures in the field. This required cross-functional communication to correlate results with track testing and providing specific instruction to Dynamometer technicians. Supported packaging analysis to identify issues impacting the engine as a system then effectively conveyed system requirements to develop accurate Noise Vibration and Harness CAE models for acceptable powertrain bending of the 3.5L V6 applications. Lead a DOE analysis for Six Sigma Green Belt Certification to investigate fuel injector flow and leakage effects on achieving Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle requirements for the 2.3L Hybrid Escape engine. Collected and analyzed On-Board Diagonostic data on Sensitivity Trip in California to induce trouble codes in high altitude and high temperature environments on the 2008 Hybrid Escape.

Experience with Solid Works, IDEAS, Hypermesh as FEA pre and post processor, Abaqus and ANSYS for FEA analysis and post-processing, ATI for engine dynometer testing and vehicle calibration, MiniTab, UNIX, Windows, Matlab, and all MS Office applications. Knowledge of experimental research in a laboratory environment through my graduate thesis on The Kinematics of Fatigue Crack Growth in Planar Single Crystals.
