Nurse Practitioner Endocrinology
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner program, accredited by a credentialing center recognized by the Board of Health Sciences, e.g. American Nurses‘ Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Master’s level preparation preferred. Maintains at least the minimum number of continuing education hours necessary to sustain valid state licensure and national certification.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of one (1) or two (2) years of Nurse Practitioner experience in primary care or the discipline of practice is preferred.
LICENSURE
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse and as a Nurse Practitioner
CERTIFICATION
State of New York. Current national certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses‘ Credentialing Center or other credentialing center recognized by the board. KNOWLEDGE:
Must be thoroughly familiar with the principles and practice of a Nurse Practitioner. Must have a general knowledge of the operation and administration of a medical office, well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills and be very reliable. Recognizes and maintains confidentiality of patient records. Must be able to perform activities that involve an independent evaluation or treatment of a patient’s condition. Must possess background knowledge in the biological, behavioral, medical and nursing services relevant to the practice as a Nurse Practitioner and possess knowledge of the legal, ethical and professional responsibilities of a Nurse Practitioner. The Nurse Practitioner-Certified serves as an additional patient care provider, augmenting and extending patient services provided by the medical health care team. The NP will exercise his/her patient care and medical decision making autonomy within established clinical parameters mutually agreed to and set forth upon hire and within guidelines regulated by the New York Board of Health Professions. The NP will provide a broad range or diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive services traditionally falling under the scope of nursing and medicine as defined within those clinical parameters. Services include history and physical exams, diagnosis and evaluation of specific illness and/or injuries, and effective treatment of diseases or injuries, both chronic and acute, and preventive and health maintenance services. Subject to approval from the New York Board of Pharmacy and under the supervision of the Physician(s) or his designee, the Nurse Practitioner may prescribe medications within schedules allowed under the legal scope of his/her nursing practice.
