Nurse Practitioner
Valentina asked:

This fall I’m starting school to eventually become a NP.. After receiving my license I would like to open my own practice, specially a clinic similar to planned parenthood where ppl can get std test and womens health/ and or pediactrics..

What states can a nurse practitioner open a practice, esp in California??

Thanks in advance.

    1. In Cal, no. Once you are into NP school, think about this then –when you can see what shape the medical community is in & what are the rules & regs are. Very very few NPs actually open a multispecialty solo clinic due to costs, malpractice, coverage issues & other logistics. You can always be in a collaborative practice with a multi-specialty group.

You can not you need to work under a DR’s license in most states however what you really need to look into is how much is your malpractice insurance (hence why most Nurse Practitioners work in large clusters) I live in Illinois and the malpractice for a NP/midwife and or OBGYN is outrageous. Therefore they leave to another state or work for a hospital and get salary pay
