Is mining an easy career to get into?

June 23, 2009 By: job board Category: Question Forum

mining career
Dan asked:

Hello from England! Firstly, let me say that I know the mining industry is pretty much dead here. I am willing to travel world-wide.

I have no mining experience or qualifications but I want to give it a go. Would it be possible for me to become a miner (of any material, as long as it is shaft and not open-pit)?

I want hard work in an unforgiving environment and I think that mining take some beating. What is a day’s work like, can you give me a rough idea of the money, and what are the plus and minus points of this career choice?

Thanks.

    1. White-Knuckle Blackout! says:

Man, you’d be lucky to get any job at the moment. Pursuing a career which is rare isn’t going to help you.

      EDIT

As for qualifications, you’re going to have to do a college course in mining or construction or anything else similar.

    2. It would help getting a degree in mine engineering. Mining jobs depend on the price of the mineral being mined. The higher the price the more it will be mined.
