What do you include in a cover letter?
Ashley asked:
I am applying for admistrative/office jobs and am wondering what you include in a cover letter?
I am going to be e-mailing the resume to the jobs so should I include the cover letter in the e-mail body or should I put it on a seperate Word Doc like the resume is in?

I would put the cover letter in a separate file to the Resume. (I assume that is the same as a CV?)
Crude, I can’t find my notes on what should be in the cover letter, but mainly it’s a introduction, tell who you are, why you think you’d be suitable for the job…there are other things but i simply can’t remember, and the cover letter should be on a different document and should be sent first in most cases, but as your doing it by e-mail I would assume it would be okay to send it in one e-mail
hope this helped
I would place the cover letter as the first page of the Word Doc that contains the resume. You want to make things as convenient for those receiving the email as possible, so it would be best to just attach one file for them to download.
As far as content is concerned, it’s always best to customize your cover letter to each job opportunity. If the cover letter sounds too much like a form letter, the hiring manager will treat it like junk mail. Most importantly, review the required skills for each job and then specifically spell out your qualifications and strengths that match those job requirements.
Good luck!
In addition to your resume, this is the first impression the employer will have of you. While, opinions vary on what to include in a cover letter, I always get a little creative with my cover letters….and I’ve always gotten the jobs I’ve applied for. This is your chance to standout from the rest of the applicants.
I include: state the exact position I am applying for, my experience/education/skills that qualify me for that position, a reason why I am excited to work for that company, and thank them for their time and consideration for the position. Keep this all brief, it shouldn’t be more than a half a page.
Good luck!
I would include what you feel you can bring to the company and your goals
